  1. Hi Nick, welcome to the forum from a very chilly Morecambe!
  2. Where did they get the film developed on the front line?
  3. Well, I didn't see that coming! Makes getting lost on the fells worth it after all! Thank you Dee for choosing this as POTW (your cheque is in the post). As I think I've said in previous posts; I consider myself fortunate to have access to some of the most wonderful scenery in the country, I just point the camera, the light and landscape make the picture.
  4. Hi Dave, welcome from up north!
  5. Hi Jo, welcome to the forum!
  6. Congratulations Paul, well deserved!
  7. Hi Graham, a warm welcome from a very chilly Morecambe!
  8. Thank you Denis, your input is much appreciated.
  9. Since the death of my pc I've been limited to using my phone, work pc, wife's laptop and a pc built from salvaged parts for photo processing and forum browsing. Building a pc from salvaged parts has given me enough confidence to think I could build a new machine, thus saving money/getting higher spec. Can anyone here offer any advice or wisdom on what the spec should be for a machine for general web browsing, photo editing, maybe the occasional video edit and some not very serious gaming. I'm currently thinking: Midi tower case and cooling fans (already owned) 430 watt power supply (already owned) AMD Kaveri APU Asrock mATX motherboard 8 gig ram 1 TB hardrive 240GB SSD Acer 22" monitor Windows 8.1 I really begrudge buying this but I need it for Adobe Lightroom
  10. Congratulations Korky; treemendous shot and a worthy winner!
  11. Congratulations Mr & Mrs Fuji
  12. You have my sympathy Paul; may she get well soon!
  13. Congratulations Paul!
  14. Maybe I was a butcher in a previous life, but here's my attempt! Couldn't decide whether to go mono or not so I posted both.
  15. Hi Mike, welcome to the forum!
  16. The 512MB stick says DDR 400MHz PC3200 by Elixir. According to the ECS website; 2 x 184 pin DDR DIMM socket support up to 2GB; support for DDR 400,333,266,200,ddr, SDRAM. If you can help me out with memory that would be brilliant, just let me know and I'll pm my address. One of my workmates is letting me have a brand new graphics card from his stock pile, so that should work fine. The processor is one of the later models and is working fine.
  17. Yea, I know! I have two sticks of 512 meg ram, but it won't boot with them both in. The best it will go with is a 512 and a 256. The best bit is the cover which is missing from the side (that's so I can tap the graphics card when the white dots start to appear on the screen) It's got a fan that has THREE COLOUR FLASHING LEDs.
  18. My computer died last week so I've not posted any pictures for a while. I've been keeping up to date and "liking" images on my smartphone, but it's just not the same. Family and friends have offered old computers to get me through my withdrawal issues, but not one of them has been in working order. I've managed to salvage enough parts from the donor machines to make one that works. Athlon 64 processor, 250 gig and 80 gig hard drives, 748.4 meg of ram and a flat screen tv. It's running Linux Zorin OS. The technology must be at least 10 year old, but I'm so happy to be back on line again.

    POTW - w/e 9/11/14

Congratulations Geoff! A cracking shot and a well deserved winner.
  20. I think you may just have gone AWOL Jeff! But seriously, photography is not just about a print in an exhibition, it's a way of life. Because of photography I now spend a lot of time walking in the Lake District, something I would never have done before. I've met loads of new friends and been to places I've never been before. I have visited and photographed every lighthouse in Morecambe bay, discovered the life cycle of the Wolf spider and many other creatures. I've learnt about stars and constellations, maritime history, how cotton bobbins are made and many other things that I'd never event thought about before. I've learnt how to build and configure a computer, use various operating systems and software. Photography has been a real eye opener for me; I now see the world in a different way than before. So when I look at my pictures and find that they don't match up to the award winning photographer who has their print on the wall of a gallery (ok, I have won picture of the week a few times and recently photo of the month) I'm aware that my picture represents not just the scene printed on paper, but the stronger, healthier and happier person I am because of taking that picture. My pictures are part of me and who I am. Jeff, stick around this forum for a while. Share your pics with us and you'll soon find that photography isn't about being as good as someone else, it's more about how you see yourself and the world around you.
  21. I think you have to have a certain number of post before you get these privileges, 30, 40, 50, can't remember, but you're getting there!
  22. Hi Phon, welcome to TIPF!
  23. Yay, congratulations Paul!... but are they correct to describe your picture as that of a gorilla?
