    Service.

Definitely a good service from the shop as well, although they will send it off to a Canon service centre (6 in England and the nearest to you is in Stoke on Trent) so three weeks isn't bad at all. I'm with John on being a bit surprised at your 70D needing a service so soon. ok my 5D mkII is a level up from the 70D but I'm currently on 55K shots in 5 years and it's going fine. I do get the occasional overexposure but that is normally down to the button pusher not getting settings right. Please do let us know how it performs when you have it back and whether there's much difference. I had a lens serviced a couple of years ago and it came back better than when I first got it, although it was very good originally.
  2. Well done, not only on getting to the tops, but on achieving something you've wanted to do!
  3. Peaceful?? With Fuji here???? Welcome back from me too
  4. Hiya Paul and welcome from East Anglia btw, what's an 'oly'
  5. Probably because there are so darned many of them (and lots of different types) We do get some extremely detailed pictures of bees, butterflies, wasps etc and even an earwig has featured I think, but there's not as many of them around by comparison.
  6. I think the main reason for the closeups is the fascination with something we don't normally see. It's not necessarily pretty, in some cases it's downright ugly, but it's often curious and sometimes interesting.
  7. Always good to receive acknowledgement. Well done, and enjoy (and good luck with the sales)
  8. That's a tricky one. For something like this would it be possible for you to be at the side, rather than behind the family (not knowing the layout makes suggestions a bit difficult for that), Equally, the issue of noise may or may not matter depending on the size of print or viewing size. 800iso on most modern cameras shouldn't be a big problem. I like the idea of keeping in the background and using a longer lens. The quality won't be quite as good as a prime, but it's much more discrete.
  9. Hiya Chrissy and welcome Nothing wrong with a bit of quirkiness, we have a few high-grade quirks on here
  10. Thank you again for the PotW and the kind comments
  11. Thank you very much
  12. hey, I like the idea of using a sleeve with an elasticated cuff to fit the lens. That looks a useful bit of improvisation.

    POTW w/e 1/6/14

Excellent choice for PotW although I'm not sure how you managed to pick just one from the set, they were all very good. Well done Colin
  14. I may be there on Monday if the weather is decent, so I'll keep my eyes peeled, not that I stand much chance unless I talk nicely to my friends up there.
  15. And greetings from just over your northern border Welcome to the madhouse
  16. I use a Spyder Pro hardware gizmo to calibrate my monitors but I also have profiles for my printer that I know give good results with particular papers and ink. So my process is.... Check the calibration on the monitor regularly! Check the printer profile occasionally and always if I am using a different brand or type of paper or ink. Then in PS work on the picture until the screen shows what I want (I normally use sRGB or AdobeRGB for working space). Apply the appropriate printer profile to the picture for printing, and it looks odd on screen because the printer and screen are not exactly matched. The printout does look like the screen without the profile attached to the picture, so I may save the 'profiled' version as well as the unprofiled. If I'm sending for printing by a lab or printer, I tend to download their profiles if available or just send sRGB which normally work quite well.
  17. I think the camera matters more to people who don't take photographs than to those who appreciate the content and take a minute to wonder where, when, how and why it was taken. I'm with you on the comments like 'What a big camera, I bet that takes great pictures' GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
  18. Greetings Rick, and welcome to the madhouse p.s. I'm the sane one around here (I think)
  19. Well done colin, a cracking portrait
  20. Keep it there if you can, they seem to like slug lunches
