  1. Nothing decent has any business growing in these dry conditions but these cactii are spectacular.
  2. OK - here's my effort. My grand daughter's toy T-Rex made me think of Jurassic Park but decided that it would need to be a bit too sophisitcated. In the end I went for the fairly naff genre of 1950s 'B' horror movies.
  3. This is a useful tip. I grudge paying, in total £120.00 a year, but I have been a bit reluctant to take a step into the unknown of new software. I may choose to bite the Affinity bullet.
  4. Tried to make a still life out of these rather cumbersome instruments.
  5. Great choice, well deserved, John
  6. Yep, I'm with Denis on this one - it's not as if we were competing for £££s
  7. I've really enjoyed looking at everyone's interpretation of this topic. What a great idea!
  8. This is so reminiscent of days gone by. "Have you got a nut to fit this bolt?" "Just a minute I'll have a look" Then he roots about in a couple of dozen boxes before presenting you with the required nut. "That will be tuppence please" Not exactly Halfords but it feels like we have lost a lot.
  9. I have also gone the 40s festival route but this is a bit experimental. Took these in Holt, Norfolk last year.
  10. I may be stretching the 'still in use' brief beyond the limit but in 2011 I was in Seattle in NW USA. This is a defunct gasworks which those clever Americans have built a park around. The backdrop is the Seattle skyline, the iconic Space Needle being on the centre right. I should admit that \I had a fairly mediocre camera in those days (bad workman/tools?) so please be gentle with me!
  11. I actually voted for your shot but suspect that my super cute grand daughter gave me an unfair advantage!
  12. Great photograph. Loads of character in his face and rally vibrant colours.
  13. OK everyone. Thank you for your votes. The next challenge is to be 'Rooftops'. As always use your ingenuity and imagination to make what you want of this. If you feel inclined to scale the Shard in pursuit of that special shot that is your decision but I take no responsibility for any mishaps! I am off to clean my crampons and ice pick. Happy shooting. BTW the challenge closes at midnight on Friday September 14.
  14. Oh Cyril, I cannot imagine the pain and worry you have been through. I am so glad you now have reason to be optimistic.
  15. This is my grandaughter, engaged in a major construction project ct
  16. Long defunct petrol station in Bodie, a ghost town in a remote corner of California.
  17. Stravinsky's photos from Western USA got me thinking about my visit a year and a half ago. We approached Yosemite NP from a high mountain pass over the Sierra Nevada and this is one of our first views of the park. I've never seen a better view.
