  1. So sorry to hear about Kobi, it's hard losing a much loved friend.
  2. A tad early, there's still over 12 hours left to vote.
  3. When I needed extra external backup I bought a Silverstone External Enclosure and put in an ordinary SATA Drive, which can easily be swapped with other hard drives, it attaches to your pc/laptop via usb. Whereas the WD Devices are sealed these you can open up, take out the old hard drive and inset a new drive and it's ready to go. I have 3 one for each pc that I have.
  4. Well, there's still 12 hours to go - I might have to go to my original idea - if not I'll post the one I did...
  5. Oh, I was just going to post mine, but looks like we came up with a similar sorta style.... against a black background. I might have to have another think tomorrow...
  6. Well this kit came with a softbox tent and 2 lights and a light attached to a boom arm. All in all not bad for £70, including postage.. Only downpoint, could have done with longer power leads, esprcially on the boom arm. And you do need quite a bit of space ro swt it all up - I used a wall papering table that way I could get the boom arm behind the table and the 2 smaler lamps on the pasting table. It does take about 40 mins to set up and take down agan - but most of that is trying to wrestle the 90x90x90 cube back into an 18inch bag - I ought to take a picture all assembled....
  7. Well today I've been making the use of my softbox tent and lights... nothing very interesting just work related product shots. I was also playing around with the exposure compensation for the first time, shooting against a black background I found -2/3rds -1 worked best, while shooting against a white background a + 2/3rds - 1 worked best. So all in all a successful day
  8. One of the advantages of working for yourself is being able to pick and choose when you work - however it doesn't always work out like that. The last few weeks have been like that and I've rarely had chance to get out with my camera. I do tend to get twitchy if I can't get out 3 or 4 times a week - even if for only an hour.. Is that just me or do others feel the same?
  9. Yes that's pretty much what I did, however without knowing that before hand trying to work it out after it's unfolded is a different matter. I am though, going to have to find somewhere else to put it once it's unfolded and with all the lights - as it doesn't quite fit and still have room to walk around it in the front room. Got from Ebay £70 including free delivery
  10. Today I got a softbox tent, kit 90x90x90cm, with 3 lights, one being a boom. I was surprised how small it collapses to - it fits into an 18inch circular bag. Getting it up is fairly straight forward. but collapsing it down to fit back into the back is another matter. As it came with no distructions as soon as you took it out the bag it unfolded... Despite much fiddling and trial and error, I had to resort to googling a video to work how to do it. Even then it was still pretty tricky, you sorta have to twist it in opposite directions and then it collapses inwards. I've tried unfolding and refolding it quite a few times, and it's still surprisingly difficult. Here it is back folded again... I do need to iron the backdrop though
  11. Nothing to do with Chris Spedding, but a friend I know goes out with a few others and treks around the country and even further - a few months back they were in Portugal - on bikes. They all have cameras attached either to the bikes or helmets and then Dave edits it all together as a video with music. I'd love to go along as some of the scenery is quite winderful - alas I don't have a bike license. But here's his latest video. (Keep an eye out for around 5mins 30 secs in when the bike catches fire..) https://youtu.be/KazgOuZGV9U

    Congrats from me also.
  13. I do like to print off my images, the local print place does 12x8inch prints for 1.99, I have about 12 framed on my walls at any one time - plus 80-90 printed ones which I vary. I've noticed that the prints I get back are very close to what I see on screen. All my monitors are Dell of one sort or the other (a 20, 21, 24 and 30inch version), yet each look slightly different.. but my new laptop everything looks far too bright, so I'm thinking one of these calibration thingies will be useful. I can see quite a big difference in the before/after shots - particularly the background on the after which has more a neutral grey colour where the before is quite a warm grey
  14. Well it looks for this week we have a clear winner: So over to you Phoenix. Congrats on winning and to everyone who took part.
  15. You still can, if you click the little icon at the end of the voting bars it will show who voted.
  16. Many thanks to all those who entered, lots of different views and ideas.
  17. Well done Fuzzy. That pirate really does look like Johnny Depp.
  18. As voting hasn't statred yet, I can't see a problem in changing it for the one you meant to post, if it was done by accident.... of course it's upto the forum admins to decide whether it's allowed to change the image once posted I guess...
