I have Dee's permission to make this posting as I have just had a call from her explaining why she hasn't been around lately on the Forum ...She is in fact in hospital where she was admitted two weeks ago after unexpectedly being diagnosed with ovarian cancer . Those of us who have had contact with her over the years have seen what an amazing character she is and how stoic she has always seemed in the face of adversity . Dee was originally from the Uk and moved to Australia many years ago ....she lived out in the wilds with acres of land till a few years ago when her husband became ill and sadly died. She moved with her beloved dogs to an urban setting and readjusted as best she could and had hip replacement surgery that she had postponed for a long time whilst nursing her husband . Unfortunately that didn't have the result that was expected and she had to have more surgery to put it right ... Throughout all of this she never ever seemed to feel sorry for herself and it seemed even when her son became extremely ill she seemed to be made of steel and was a mainstay of support to him and the family helping to navigate through those hard times. Even now she seems as tough as old boots but I know she would dearly love to hear from any of you, not only those who have interacted with her before. I would love to hear her story and tales of her escapades over the years so if you feel you can tell us a bit about how your life in Australia all started Dee ....we would love to hear it... and keep in touch with you on this thread while you start your chemotherapy etc in a short while. So if ever you have the time and energy to spare , even for just moment, tell us how it all started. We are sending you our very best thoughts and wishes to let you know that you are not alone .. So Dee ... what on earth made you decide to move to a place that has spiders as big as yer hand and snakes that slither into yer house when you're not looking all. those years ago !!!?

The first image is the best in my opinion …taken from a point of view that enables context and a bokeh that ensures separation of the subject from the background…

I first saw this 25 years ago not long after it opened to the public following it's restoration ... What a magnificent place and what a fabulous job has been done to restore it ... a really magical place well worth visiting .... You have captured that tranquil aura that pervades Heligan Martyn ...

Sometimes it feels like it's feast or famine when it comes to the number of photos posted over the course of a week on the Forum ...AND it's just as difficult sometimes to choose the POTW when considering a large number of photos as it is when there are just a few. There were a number that caught my eye this week with Hatter's sepia set, evoking transport and machines from a bygone era..I especially liked the sepia version of ZZ tractor. Ryewolf's signature mono landscapes in their letterbox format impressed me with the Wind farm and the Great Orme but I was drawn back to the simple image of the Cable Cars . For me it works entirely because of the skilful composition delivering a balance of colour line and form that creates something really memorable out of nothing almost .... That's really well composed Rye ...Primary colours too... simple but really effective ... The Format works really well ... it even loosely reminds me of a Mondrian with those colours and the black lines of the cables.

Yes an interesting set ... Personally I really like the last one of the EPCOT Centre ... the incongruity of a lakeside scene with what looks like a giant golfball nestling amongst some trees and up against the roof of that building .... just surreal !

Looks like a Space ride I've heard about in this Disney theme park..I see it first opened in 1982 though it's been updated and revamped a few times... Looks like you probably had some unusual shooting opportunities over there ... do post some more ... The yanks always do thing so BIG don't they ....

Oooh I always like your mono landscapes Rye and using the 16.9 format that really lends itself to panoramic views. The framing and mount effect always gives a landscape like this some extra stature for me ...

Really suits the letterbox format Rye and the composition is nicely balanced with the horizon and clouds placed where they are in the image .... I rarely like to see horizons in the centre of a photo. It does look like one of the largest wind farms I have seen on our coast . Is it Gwynt Y Mor ?.... if it is there are 160 turbines and that is the 5th biggest wind farm in the world !

.... It certainly needs a few lesson in survival techniques as sitting on a wall almost silhouetted against the sky has practically placed it dead centre of the crosshairs !

Ooh Some cracking images in this set Hatter ... Love the characters you have caught and they seem to fit in so well with the machines they are "partnered " with ... The processing just adds to the flavour of a bygone era ... I especially like the 1st and 3rd pic in the set ... and that vintage Chevvy looks like someone's pride and joy ... Out of interest I'd like to know what the colours were... looks like it could be cream and black!

Ah Thanks Mark .....Sometimes yer just get lucky and find that you are in the right place at the right time . I just loved the colour and that it was just it was the very last moments of the sunset and seemed to extend really low and just along the horizon.
