  1. I understand why you include diesel trains that are iconic Rye and there are people who will a really appreciate these but I am a bit of a Philistine when it comes this genre of trains …
  2. Oooh now I like this Rye …
  3. Looks a real character …. I like the inclusion of the marine background and the title…”Harbour cat “ too … unusual combination .
  4. Well I didn't know that Mikbone!
  5. It's an amazing place to visit... just full of history .... It must be years since I went there. Was this a recent visit then Fogey ? Awesome costumes ...I particularly remember there were just so many paintings to look at !
  6. Arghhhhh ... Both amazing and awful at the same time Mik !! Brilliant detail and yes ....so ugly !!
  7. That's interesting Jon ....can you show us the original please so we can judge how effective it has been ... What did you use/ Was it the Photoshop with Generative Fill Tool?
  8. Once again I found it difficult to decide on this weeks winner ... Stravinski's trip to the Lavender fields resulted in some well composed images full of colour and symmetry whilst Mikbone's close up pics of a wasp building a nest were well detailed and in one case quite comical... however the image that I kept going back to was Hatter's tall ship with his three differently processed versions... then another conundrum... which one of the three to choose! All three have points that warranted first place. The sepia version seemed really fitting for the era depicted and I loved the definition and tones in the black and white version but some things were more apparent in the colour version such as the seagulls on the rock and the red sails on the ship and the patchwork of fields on the horizon... so that was my reasoning for choosing the colour version... Congratulations Hatter ... Follow the link to see the original posting :- https://www.tipf.co.uk/forums/topic/58376-the-tall-ship/#comment-248810
  9. Welcome to The Independent Photography Forum. Please feel free to browse around and get to know the others. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

  10. That first one looks like a Lavatera and the latter looks like a stinking Iris or Iris foetidissima to give it it's proper name . It's leaves smell a bit like roast beef ! Now you know which ones NOT to pick to put in a vase in your house Mark !!!
  11. When I was last there I was lucky to get any shots that weren't full of the public walking through the fields and most were Japanese tourists ! Great sky in the first one, with the clouds complementing as a random foil to the regimented lines .. A very nice set Strav ...
  12. A super detailed photo Mik , however .... " lovely " is not an adjective that immediately springs to mind if I were to describe any type of fly ... As they say though .... "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ! "
  13. I really am drawn to the 2nd image as it made me chuckle ....Another case of assigning human emotions to a non-human entity (a bit like last weeks winning pic by Paul ) as this wasp looks distinctly surprised at being caught in the act by the camera! Kudos though for the superb detail in the first image Mik ....
  14. I don't know much about Diesel engines at all and usually I don't find them of great interest to me personally as they don't epitomise a look that I find pleasing ... however I do like these two photographs : the first because of the opposite expressions on the faces of the two chaps on the footplate and the reflections of the unseen people on the platform and the second because of both the balanced composition and the tonal values in the Mono processing ... I may have been inclined to crop that bit of the second engine on the right as it distracts me a bit Rye ...

    The Tall Ship

Fabulous threesome Gareth ... love them all !
  16. There is something quite magical about seeing field full of flowers.... Such a great idea to use natural petals as confetti when so may churches were banning the use of the traditional paper confetti. Mind you I suspect that the really original confetti in the days before paper stuff was manufactured , was probably real flower petals anyway ! Such an innovative way of diversifying the traditional farming role and now , 25 years after starting a company to do that it seems this company near Pershore , provides confetti for weddings all around the world . Some lovely photos capturing this spectacle Strav... Look forward to the shots of the Lavender fields ... It's been a few years since I took the camera to shoot them and found my self taking almost as many shots of Japanese Brides and Grooms who wanted the the fields of lavender as a backdrop to their wedding photos . The last pic is my favourite Strav... very nice set .....
  17. Yeah I prefer the colour version too... The little patch of green through the far door that takes the eye through the image and even the green planters leading to it, all add to the interest and dynamics of the pic for me .... even the little patch of blue sky emphasises the probable warmth generated in the orangery.... and the tiled floor becomes a much more noticeable characteristic in the colour version ... imho ...
  18. Ohhh it really looks menacing doesn't it .... just waiting to start nibbling !! Grrrrr.... smashing Pic Mik .
  19. My favourite of the week too Rye ...we did have some cracking macros didn't we ? Well done Paul.... The narrative was really epitomised by the apparent expression on this wee spider!
  20. Flippin' Eck ... that is a close up ! Great shot of the lenses on a compound eye Mik!
  21. Thanks Dee ... It is hard to believe that they are tulip petals isn't it?... The variation of colours blended on each petal seems to be unique and no two petals look exactly the same !
  22. It has made me very nervous now about walking down that end of the garden .... The owner is making arrangements to have it felled soon... It's a black Poplar ... there is a whole wood full of them nearby ... They were apparently grown to supply Bryant and May with wood for their Safety matches production years ago ..... that would make a lot of matches !
  23. Thanks Paul ..... I have had single colour parrot tulips before but these were so different with both their textures and what seemed like multicoloured brush strokes ... I just loved them and had to record them in some way . Hopefully the badgers wont dig them up and eat them by next year as they decimated one bed of tulips this year ... I even caught the beggars on my trail camera. munching their way through a dozen or so one night in March !!
  24. That's a proper " in your face" moment isn't it ... Fantastic macro work Paul !
