The Bandstand

Thank you all for the positives :yes

I think that litter bin needs to be given the boot, though.

What is it with you and bins, have you had a bad experience at some time?

As a child, I was locked in a bin inside a coalshed at the bottom of a neighbour's garden as a punishment for not eating my sprouts on Christmas Day.

It's left me scarred and when I saw this image I had to have a lie down.

But you leave the bin where it is if you wish.

There's a West Park in South Shields with a bandstand - wonder how common they are?

Probably very common. We have a second bandstand in a different park at Goole that gets used regularly, not sure about this one though.

Good to see you're on the ball with FB :)

I've returned to this image a few times........it reminds me very much of the Municiple Postcards sold in almost every large town with a Park and Bandstand ........Leamington spa was our nearest......it is still there, but sadly, very few a Silver or Brass Bands give Sunday Concerts so it has become a hangout for the undesirables.

The Bandstand still looks as attractive as it ever was, but is mainly redundant.......there are fewer and fewer folk like our Martyn who actively play music on an instrument in public.

Most band members of the past came via the Military, and 70% would have been in the Services so tended to like band concerts......sadly, mostly passed on now.

It's a lovely picture and beautifully edited.

Don't see many bandstands anymore. When I was a kid dad always dragged us up the park when there was a band playing, always on a Sunday I think. The adults all sat on deckchairs and the kids on the grass.
