Thanks ladies.....the splash was a lucky break.......I forgot to mention this the other bird is one of the extremely tame Moorhens, only dogs will shift them off the footpath now.

That gives me time to whinge about certain dog owners.........Our local pool is a huge with folk, especially those with young families......infants and kids of all ages just love to feed the ducks, swans, coots, moorhens, Canada Geese, black headed gulls and even the tame carp.......

Why then do certain dog owners think it a huge joke when their.... wouldn't hurt a fly...... pooch tears into the middle of very tame trusting birds scattering them terrified in all directions?........

Sorry, had to get it off me chest.

Image number one is....brilliant!, please do tell ..how was this achieved?

Hi, Denis,

By the local pool at this point is one of my favourite photography points.....because there is always something happening either with people, pets and wildlife ....at other times I have captured....Portraits, action shots, family shots, Birds In Flight, a whole variety of bird life ...oh...and the occassional vole or mouse:

I am the kind of person who can just stand and watch for ages...........this has enabled my to anticipate certain happenings.........In this instance, a duck (as usual) was standing right on the edge of the pool (like the Moorhen in the next shot).......I know that if a dog or person get too close the birds just PLOP! onto the water.

I set my shutter speed and ISO up a bit, set my focus then waited and waited until the inevitable dog appeared................To achieve the timing was pure chance, but a chance that I knew might come right....and it DID.
