Great White Egret (Picture heavy). A majestic rarity in Preston

Paul

Recommended Posts

A rare sighting at Brockholes in Preston, only 3 other records of the Great White Egret prior to the one currently there. Couldn't miss the chance to photograph this majestic bird.

And today, I got to see it in good view positions. Had to use the 1.4x extender sometimes, on the Sigma 150-500 lens. Wonderful to see this rare visitor.

All records:

2009: 1 on the River Ribble, close to Brockholes, Preston.

2011: 1 initially found on Boilton Marsh, Brockholes, Preston.

2013: 1 in flight over Lower Brockholes, went down in Boilton Marsh before flying SW away from the reserves.

2014: The egret has been here for 4 days now - the longest time spent on the reserve.

What amazing pictures.

A truly wonderful set Paul,

Majestic just has to be the right description for this bird, what a sight!

Thank you both  :)

The local press are going to be using the first, and the fly-past photos I believe, next week.
