Green Shield Bug

Recommended Posts

Yay, bugs are finally beginning to appear up north!  Spotted a shield bug on the Jasmine, ran inside and grabbed the D5100 and reversed 28-50 zoom. In my excitement I forgot to use a flash diffuser. Once I knew there were bugs about I started to look around and was surprised to find the same on the Japanese Acer where they stood out like a sore thumb. I can't get over how luminous the colours are on these little critters.

This is a whole new world for me, I can honestly say that I've never seen one of these before; how many more new creatures am I going to discover this summer now that I'm looking for them?

I've been doing a bit of research into Shield bugs, it seems I may have identified this one incorrectly. It is more likely to be a Birch Shield Bug or a Hawthorn Shield Bug. Any ideas from those more acquainted with these things would be much appreciated.
