For me the DOF is far too harsh, having the whole shell in focus on a beach, where the foreground and background are out of focus would lend better, just MHO obviously

I like the very shallow depth of field, it gives it a much more abstract feel.

I quite like this too ... A bit of an optical illusion ... It could almost be  looking down a spiral  well or  at the top of a shell ....

I wanted a abstract feel to the shell and not just the obvious shell on the seashore shot,  i was playing around with the spiral shape and tones trying to get a out of focus dream like quality to it.

I can’t unsee the optical illusion of looking down on it now lol . I hadn’t noticed that at the time of taking the shot.
