Woody the Woodpecker

Recommended Posts

Went to Fleet Pond last weekend. Early morning when we were walking around looking for suitable photo opportunities we heard very close to us a woodpecker in the trees but could not see it. A bit later around the other side of the pond we hear it again and looking up he was right above us. Need the 600mm lenses and he is still small in the pic.

The noise was the give away sign then eh .... it is quite distinctive isn't it ? We have a few of them frequenting the  feeders in the garden  as we have a large wooded area close

by . The Great spotted woodpeckers are  one of our most striking birds with their red rumps and red  crowns on the males ... The  lesser spotted are  pretty rare and never have red on their undercarriage.   Well done on capturing this one on  your walk ... you must be pleased  to have  caught one the first time that you have seen one !👍

Yes was please to see it and to actually get a couple of photos was really good pleasing. Just brought a 150-600 zoom so that came into good use although a bit heavy for hand holding there was no time to put the tripod up.😄😄
