It's a hoverfly :)

 

Two different species in those two pictures, but I think the first may be Eupeodes Luniger and the second, one of the parhelophilus hoverflies.

 

I'll take your word for it Bugs!... :lol:

I think Chris may have the Marmalade, Episyrphus balteatus.

 

I thought John yours was Melangyna umbellatarum but it looks very orange rather than a paler yellow.

 

 

Either way - great hovers.

Very nice, John - the second shot you posted is excellent. 

 

I've had my first insect of the year too - it crawled out from under the telly while I was watching Loose Women. No worries, though -  I got the little bugger with a rolled-up Radio Times.
