Privet Hawk Moth.

Went out to water in the shade house when we got home yesterday and spotted a lovely big moth. I've posted the first one to show you where he was:

 

 

 

On the shade cloth, behind the wire, at the back of a garden bed, so not easy to get close to. I poked the lens through the wire to get a bit closer:

 

 

 

 

Then put my hand over and behind the wire to get this one - and bear in mind that a large-winged flapping moth is one of the two things that scare me witless!!:

 

 

 

He didn't move!! 10 mins later, he was gone.
