LITTLE BOXES....FOR POLLY

Recommended Posts

Here you go.... four small lidded boxed in Yew wood.... the large one in beautiful English box wood.

I have literally a ton of that boxwood .... my son is a tree-surgeon.... the ancient box wood tree had caused a castle boundary wall to fall into a main road.... I ended up with pretty well the whole tree cut into 15 inch long logs from 3 inches to 8 inches in diameter.

The three  yew boxes came From a branch that had been in a friends garden shed for years.... he knew I did turning, so presented me with it.

Woodturning is a very dusty, but relaxing hobby.... the correct clothing and protective breathing mask need to be worn if intending to do it for long.

i tend to spend not more than two hours at a time.

Somebody's trash is someone else treasure....

The small boxes are circa 11/2. inches on diameter and 13/4 inches tall.... The large one is circa 13/4 inches in diameter...and 21/2 inches tall.... the Centre decoration in the Centre of each lid is done with a ....Chatter-Tool.... or....an old springy table-knife doctored to have a very sharp springy end.... put it against the face of a revolving lid...the cutting edge chatters, cutting a random circular pattern .
