Great composition Leon - it's a shame as you say you couldn't tease any colour from the sky.

I've known people "drop" skies into photos - nothing wrong with that mind, though some just won't. Have you considered trying it?

I've been away all weekend and I'm just going through all the posts I need to catch up on without commenting for the sake of speed. Just had to comment on this one Leon, that is a great shot! Personally, I would be tempted to try and tease a little more out of the sky in Lightroom.

I'm not saying what I've done here is any good Leon, but it's an example of something you can do in Photoshop fairly quickly :

  1. Find another image with a decent sky, and select a suitable amount of it
  2. In your main image, paste in the sky as new layer and adjust size to fit, making sure it overlaps your sky line completely
  3. On the sky layer, use the blending mode 'Darken'
  4. Use the eraser on any bits it didn't work on (the top of the hay bale, in your picture)
  5. Finally, adjust levels and colour balance, and flatten the image when you're happy

I'm sure there's other ways too, but that's how I just did this.
