Saltend Chemicals Park

Saltend Chemicals Park near Hull is not typical of my type of location. I had been exploring along the Humber estuary on an uninspiring grey evening when there was a sudden blast of wonderful late light. There was no need to think about it, I grabbed the opportunity while the light was right or drove on looking for a "better" location and lost the light. The gear was out, the camera on tripod and an ND filter fitted fast enough to catch the light before it all returned to grey.

The result of one photograph was a decision to come back later for a dusk shot for which I found a nearby railway bridge was the only high vantage point for miles around and the next day, after journeying down to spurn head, I came back down the same lane with the intention of picking up a view along the estuary and took one more shot for comparison of the chemical park as I was passing.

Love the sky in the top one Bill especially with your brand of processing

Is it really called a chemical park I had visions of swings over sulphuric acid

Quote from their website

"Saltend Chemicals Park on the eastern edge of Hull is a production powerhouse with a cluster of world-class businesses manufacturing more than a million tonnes of chemicals products annually.

The site, managed by BP Chemicals Ltd, has seen £500 million of investment over the past five years as it has developed rapidly, building upon the success of BP's long-established acetic acid manufacturing operations to embrace a range of industry-leading businesses working together in an impressive, integrated operation."

You have used, then captured the light beautifully on all of these Bill...............Why is it that...............

The Light  always seems to be with you??? ..............(Ref: Your byline)

I must keep an eye out for a similar subject, if and when I take the long walk across to Warwick University on the recently commissioned cycle-path..... Dramatic Autumn light should begin to appear  late morning and early evenings soon:

Great study of one setting in three lights - and I do like cooling towers as a subject!

How did you achieve the HDR effect on the last shot? And why did you bother with a ND filter for the first when you can make any kind of subtle adjustments in Photoshop / Aperture / Lightroom, or wherever?

All three have only been edited in Lightroom, the third shot has a soft ND grad if I remember correctly and I use ND grads to balance the light and improve the shot whilst minimising the pp needed.
