Dragonfly exuvia

The what? they say

The exuvia is the empty case left behind when a dragonfly hatches from a larva to the adult form.

This one was still hanging on to a bit of pond vegetation where the larva had climbed out of the water and hatched in the early morning. Unfortunately long before I got there and all I found was this.

This one was identified as the exuvia of a brown hawker dragonfly and the little fly is an added bonus

Bugs... that's brilliant, I wish it were mine...  :yes

It just wouldn't fit you Annie ;-)

Seriously though.....this is a shot of something that is normally missed.....a good mate of mine has a small garden pond, he can have a dozen of these clinging to the surrounding reeds and plants at the right time of year.......the extra insect here is a real bonus.
