btw. I think it's a 'sun fly' (heliophilus pendulas), one of about 250 species of hoverfly in the UK (40 quite common ones)

I just checked this out and you are spot on Bugs!  Thank goodness for you and annie, if it weren't for you two and one or two other members there would be little interest in macros of insects on here (that's the impression I get), I really appreciate all the feedback from you.

annie... I'm not seeing as much of everything right across the board. I did see a few of the large Dragonflies yesterday but they weren't stopping for a photo session...

We don't seem to have as many varieties where we are, John - and there is certainly NOTHING insectwise going on just now. I really enjoy looking at these
