More birds......

On my way to work yesterday stopped briefly at the lake I go past. There were heaps of birds browsing around the edges and I was quite lucky to catch these - Native Black Tailed Hens, referred to round here as Bush Hens. These roam in huge flocks, and if disturbed tend not to fly off, but run off. The three I caught were all 'on the run':

Way across the lake was a bunch of Black Swans, adults and juveniles, and on the far shoreline you can see more Bush hens and Coots browsing. They were all a bit too far away, and I didn't have time, nor was I suitably dressed to walk round.:

Always see something nice here - that's why I stop!

They are lovely birds.
It looks like the black tailed hens can mover quite fast by the angle of that ones legs.
And your black swan shot is really good.

I only saw one in Portmadoc and it was just a blur when I got a shot from a distance as it was the other side of the lake.

I like the first one best... it looks a little bit like our Moorhen.... only a liitle bit...

I thought that they loook a bit like our Moorhens, too.

I think they would be even more like them if they had straighter tails. I like the way that the tails fluff out in these shots.

their tail feather stick right up in the air...lol, and look at them running.....

am i right in saying black swans originate from australia.....?

always great to see your wildlife shots kobione...

Yes!......They do look like very fat Moorhens.

There have been at least two occasions when a Black Swan has flown on to our local pool around this time of year......Just like some of the rarer Geese , they have been escapees from wildlife parks.

It is always a pleasure to see your wild birds Kobione.
