Top 10 Outrageous Lens

Recommended Posts

I've seen a Nikon 2000mm at Nikon UK one time while I was there on a training day - didn't get to touch it though.

I have used a Sigma 200-500mm f2.8 twice - quite the most extraordinary bit of kit and a fascinating one at that. We sold one through Jessops which is why I got a chance, the chap who bought it was a multi millionaire and fancied a new toy so this monster was to be his latest muse. The other time was at a photo trade show.

A friend has the Canon MP-E 65mm and I've used it a few times - others too that came through the shop so its not rare or that outrageous. At full chat its a bit of a bugger where even moving your feet on the floor beside your tripod can knock the image out of focus.

Haven't come across a Canon 0.75 - have seen a Canon 0.95 years back but not used it - I have however used the equally rare Leica 50mm f0.95 Noctilux on a couple of occasions - I have the files on a HDD somewhere. On a rangefinder it was an absolute nightmare to get accurate focus but the results when I nailed it were astonishing.

That monster Zeiss was at a UK trade show a few years back suspended from the ceiling with a Blad attached...which looked tiny. The reps wouldn't confirm if it was real but it may have been a prototype as the original/final model went to a oil sheik at a VAST cost.

The Sigma 300-800 and the big Canon/Nikon's I haven't seen - they're rare due to cost but not that special.
