Fuji - if you are using LR have you tried the whites and darks sliders?

'I did try Lightroom once, but never really got to grips with it....

 

CS6 is my weapon of choice, and now that my recent move to Windows 10 64 bit lost all of my TOPAZ filters, I'm learning all I can about Nik Effects.......they look very promising.

Fuji, try Nik Silver Effects Pro and apply red filter - it helps darken the sky. I can't remember if I did that to this image (I tend to play around with sliders in different software until I get the effect that I want - it all depends on the lighting conditions when the photo was taken), but it certainly helps.
