Playing with a Ring Flash

Recommended Posts

Last year I got given a new  MEKE MK-14EXT Ring flash, to be honest I've never really used it  - mostly because I on't really know how to use. Anyways this evening I decided to dust it off and give it a go, as I know Paul uses a flash a lot for his photos I took a gander at some of his settings..

So set camera to manual, 1/160th, iso 200, f11, with the ring flash on ETTL Mode, time was about 20:30pm and very overcast so to be honest I wasn't expecting much, so I pointed the 100D with 100mm f2.8 + EP12 Extension tube at the first thing I saw - a Dandelion and this is what I got....

I was quite pleased with this as I knew it was a shot I couldn't normally get using my usual settings....but....

I'm still not sure how to turn the power down on the flash and the brief manual that came with the flash reads like a geeks HowTo... Not really sure if I have a specific question in mind, but any help with Ring Flashes would help.... maybe???

Yes, I think the manual stumped me a bit, it really does read like a Geel How To without explaining when or why you'd need different setting.

A couple more from today, this evening at 20:15
