Often butterflies are in poor condition by late summer as they are nearing the end of their life cycle, having said that Peacocks are one of five species that can overwinter as adult butterflies. I wouldn't betting this one will overwinter if it can find a nice cosy place out of the bad weather.

I had a Tortoiseshell Butterfly in my front room flying about on Xmas day.

Small Tortoiseshells are another of the five butterflies that can hibernate in winter and they are the ones you can see in early Spring, they often overwinter in garden sheds.
