  7. I'm not an expert Mik ... it's just a personal opinion... and others may vary ...
  8. It’s becoming more and more important when house hunting now that one checks the Government website with the history of flooding and check out the maps that show exactly where and what the risks are…. Pleased that you are ok despite substantial flooding in the Evesham area Strav…
  9. We have a lot of flooding in Worcestershire and Shropshire ... I live on a hill and decided 30 years ago I would always live on a hill after seeing floods in the area when I was house hunting after moving from Norfolk. I cannot imagine the stress of having one's home flooded and some people in Bewdley near me have been flooded 3 or 4 times recently .. What a nightmare as insurance becomes almost prohibitive in costs and selling a house with flooding history become almost impossible too ! A great diary of events Strav ....
  10. It would maybe be good to try the guitar resting on a stool ( as if someone had been sat on it playing the guitar earlier ) in a similar position and dof as you had before ... and some musical objects in the far background .... ie a drum kit , keyboard, music stand etc that were blurred enough maybe not to distract but obvious enough to add interest and context to the guitar .. anyway ... worth a try maybe... You may find this video helpful.. It's by one of my peers and a great photographer and worth watching in my opinion ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxoYxZpujbc
  11. Love the doorbell image Paul.... Looks like you have next years Christmas card pics sorted with the first two images too !
  12. Definitely contact with the photographer with that intense look directly into the lens ... A striking portrait and I prefer the closer crop and processing of the first edit ....On the second image, the arm ( lower left )distracts, taking the eye out of the picture and the lightening of part of the background above her shoulder on the left of the image also seems better hidden by the darker area on the first image Yeah.... for me the first image is the better one Mik.
  13. I like the idea of the first pic Kerry with the tuning keys and head of the guitar in focus with the shallow depth of field displaying the fret board and the main body of the guitar. I'm afraid the material though just doesn't work for me ....not sure why ... maybe it's the texture and pattern that is distracting . Maybe a plain flat surface with slightly reflective shine would work better and I wonder if any other complementary objects in a blurred background like sheet music , a music stand or guitar case and some creative lighting. Just a thought as it looks like beautiful instrument and I can see the potential for some really super images . Still ... you may well disagree and it 's just my opinion so hope you don't mind me saying so .. Others may disagree entirely
  14. You get the most incredible detail Mik ! What gear are you using by the way ... your expertise is obvious !
  15. Excellent work again Mik..
  16. That is a really effective use of oil on water Mik .. I like the the way the light shows graduated shading on some of the spheres to give a 3D effect.. It could be another solar system ...

  19. Lighting used creatively like this can make a very ordinary image into an exceptional one ... Beautifully lit and captured Mik ...
  20. It is a smashing lens Kerry ... I use it a lot ...

  23. Such sad news … Ryewolf was informed last night as Leon had seen a posting apparently by her daughter on Facebook and we didn’t want to post anything until we could confirm with a member of her family as both Rye and I do not use Facebook . Dee last telephoned me on October the 24th with the news that instigated this thread and sadly told me her internet and phone access was quite limited in hospital. Last night Rye made contact with her son who confirmed the sad news . Such a stalwart, Dee loved this Forum and despite all the problems that beset her over the past few years, she never wavered in her support, even apologising (when she was poorly and unable to walk far with her hip problems,)that she was unable to get out much with her camera . My sincere condolences go out to her family and friends. We will miss Dee on this Forum … she was one of the reasons Rye and I wanted to keep the Forum going … RIP dear friend …..
