Take a look at this thread http://www.tipf.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=4865 These pics were taken at various iso settings even as high as 1600. They were shot as RAW files, even if they are under exposed they can be recovered to make a good shot. They would not blow up to a 3 ft poster, but for reasonable size prints and viewing on screen they are great. Lights in big public buildings can take quite a while to come up to full power, so just bear that in mind when you visit the church for a look around. Speak to the vicar/minister and see how much freedom you have to move around during the service. I was given full permission to do what I liked, but I knew the vicar and church very well. For the shots around the font it can be a bit cramped, get some small steps or find a good vantage point. I stood on a pew with a stone pillar to act as support. Be prepared to do some PP on your pics. There could be halogen lights, LEDs, flourscent, daylight and stained glass to deal with; white balance can be a nightmare.
  2. Great stuff BP. I went through a phase when I fixed my old Blackberry to the centre headrest in my van and videoed my journeys. They were a lot of fun at the time.
  3. Hi Christine! Likes quirky and an odd sense of humour; you probably wont like it much here! Welcome!

Congratulations Bugsy, Superb shot! How can anyone choose one shot out of that excellent sequence, nature photography at it's best!
  5. A man after my own heart, I just use a clear plastic bag! Shame I have nothing to show for it though.

    Congratulations Colin!
  7. Today I've had a go at another panorama. Don't know what the problem was yesterday, but I've just done this one in about 10 minutes from start to finish. Maybe some sets of photos just don't lend themselves to panos or maybe they confuse the software program. Perhaps something wasn't running right in the computer.
  8. Well that didn't work. I can join 2 pictures up great, but joining the resulting images ends in a crashed computer or a message telling me the images cannot be aligned. In the end I joined 4 photos in perspective mode................. it took three hours!
  9. Thanks Colin, I'll have a go at doing them in sections first and see how I get on.
  10. I've taken a series of 8 shots in portrait format around (left to right) the interior of a local theatre. I used full manual settings on the camera and overlapped each shot by nearly 50%. I processed one of the pictures in Lightroom 5 then synchronized the settings across the set then exported them all as JPG files. I've tried various software to do a panorama with mixed results, so I decided to download a trial version of the latest Photoshop Elements to give that a try. Elements 12 does a fantastic job of blending the pictures together almost seamlessly, the problem I'm having is that it keeps putting the files in the wrong order in the final panorama despite the file numbering being correct. Is there a way I can force Elements 12 to put the files in the correct order to merge them?
  11. Congratulations Paul, any of your primate portraits could have won for me!
  12. Hi James, welcome to the forum. You'll find lots of friendly folk (well, mostly ) willing to chat and share their knowledge and know-how on here. Look forward to seeing some more of your pictures, the ones I've seen so far are great.
  13. Hi Paul, welcome to our world. You've had a DSLR longer than I have, looking forward to seeing your pics!
  14. Congratulations!
  15. But Matt, responses like that surely do not come from the serious photographic community. It's like when people accuse Sebastain Vettel of only being the world champion F1 driver because he has the best car and wealthiest sponsors. 12 months ago I may have asked of your work, "what camera did that", only because I didn't know how else to respond. Maybe when folk ask you what camera did that, you should explain exactly what it takes to get a shot like that.
  16. Ok, I'm going to attempt to put down here what I think on this subject. I don't care what gear is used to take the picture, mobile phone to top end DSLR, it's the image that's king. The only time I would ask about the gear being used is if there was a shot that clearly had some specialist equipment used, ie an underwater or aerial shot, or maybe a high magnification macro shot. I may ask about camera settings used for a particular shot, but I couldn't care less whether it's a Canikon or a Fujika. When it comes to asking about the idea behind the image, the composition or what the photographer was trying to convey: I feel that if it is a great photograph, it is for me to work that out for myself; what does this picture say, does it tell a story etc. If a photographer has spent time and effort capturing and editing a picture, I personally don't feel confident enough to question the work. On the other hand, if I like an image I will attempt to let you know what it is that speaks to me. One of the things that seems to go hand in hand with social media and forums is the like button. It's very easy just to give every picture posted a "like", but I only use it when I think it's a great image and feel that anything I say will not add to the conversation. Hmmm, I've just deleted several paragraphs of ramblings. I'l just say that comments like "nice picture" and "you must have a good camera" do annoy me sometimes, but at least they said something, even though it seems they didn't know what else to say!
  17. According to Anthony Morganti, Lightroom presets can be made so they can be stacked to an extent. ie, If a preset designed to make a contrast adjustment only is applied, then a preset that adjusts only exposure is applied they are effectively stacked. But as as already been said above, applying a preset only moves the sliders a set amount and stacking is not really a viable option.
  18. Hope you don't mind me adding another link Fuji. I think this guy is on the same specialist forum http://extreme-macro.co.uk/
