  1. Skulls make handy props, don’t they? You smoke cigars?
  2. Nothing to do with laboratory power then?
  3. Shopping Taiwan style where they rode their motor bikes through the fish market.
  4. This week I was really impressed by the RyBear's landscapes of the Elan Valley: some great compositions and vibrant colours of this beautiful part of the world I'd love to visit (maybe in 2020). I also loved Clicker's Muffled Mist landscape for the delicate pink of the early sunrise, mist and, as others noted, the positioning of the bench on the horizon that leads the eye into the distance. the photo that I like the best, though is Korky's Harriet: If I'm not mistaken Harriet is a Sussex hen. I like the tight crop of Harriet and the textured effect. I think this image would look great framed.
  5. Q for Queen Elizabeth II. Must to strange to have your head on coins from a young Queen on 1950s penny & halfpenny, to early middle age on the 20cent coin, and late middle age to old Queen on the 50 cent coin.
  6. Sorry I didn’t get time to post a “M” photo. I like to see what you have all posted.
  7. I bought some Licorice Allsorts to photograph but ate them instead.
  8. L is for Library. More action than usual with the Global Climate Action rally outside my local library last Friday.
  9. This is my first go at choosing the pick of the week: feels like quite an honour.....and a responsibility. There were several photos that stood out for me: Black Pearl’s “Vintage Magic” series using vintage lenses to create some lovely black and white images, especially the seed head with excellent bokeh; Polly’s detailed photo of an old Carpenter’s workshop captured the details of the building, its textures and balanced lighting beautifully; and I loved Roger’s photographs of the beautiful little bird on on its way to Africa sitting amongst some red berries looking quite striking. And the photo that I’ve chosen as pic of the week is Craig’s photo of Dexter. I love the pose, the way he’s looking into the lens with complete composure. The reflective surface adds interest and the soft harmonious colour of the background is great. It makes me smile. The original post can be found here »
  10. Great photos of one of my favourite birds. Love the composition of the top one.
  11. Congratulations Craig, Simon & John. Three very different images- all quality.
  12. Congratulations Roger, an outstanding image. Wish I took it.
  13. How could I pass up the opportunity to photograph one of our beautiful pink cockatoos for the G theme? One of our Galahs sitting calmly on a fence.
  14. Congratulations, Gareth. Lovely photo. Love the colours against the dark background.
  15. Feather. I spent hours learning how to use photo stacking. 36 photos of this feather. Merged in a very bad photo with almost nothing in focus?! So the whole lot went into the bin. This is a single shot taken as a back up.
  16. I was hoping to see an eagle this morning for the E theme and was glad to find this Wedge-tailed Eagle being harassed by ravens. Just after dawn on an overcast winter's day is not the best: its noisy and a bit blurry but an eagle none the less.
  17. What a creative response to the Letter D. It’s impossible to predict what people will come up with.
