  1. Good to see you around again FUJI, from a newish member I like this forum, there's enough going on so that lots of interesting photo's yet personal enough to get to know the members. I've only been a member for a few months but have already met 3 members here Leon, (for the Ingleton Waterfalls) and Chrissy and Geodar (for the Farne Islands visit). As a forum admin (not photography related) it's hard to balance (sometimes you don't have the choice) between keeping the forum ticking over and not being swamped by posts and still keeping it personal, where people can get to know each other. I can say I decided to join this forum, because there seemed to be the right balance of members posting and how well people got on where other busier forums posts could get over looked purely by the the numbers visiting and posing. I've recently been adopted by a little cat, who I've now called called Cali, who looks very similar to your cat.
  2. Interesting, having read about this and other white balance caps it sounded quite useful if you were doing a lot of photo's at once. I've never tried one, nor have I played around with the white balance in my camera.
  3. After a bit of searching to find just what sort of connocter it has, came across this: According to the StrobePro website - Easily add an external power pack with a standard Canon plug. The Canon CP-E4 Power Pack (£159) should in theory fit, but you can get third party ones that are a lot cheaper. Obviously you'd need to check that the plug on the flash is the same as the Canon one.

Congrats from me also, great image.
  5. If you're running any version of windows you can also use MVPS Hosts File, which can be used to block ads, banners, 3rd party Cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs on websites. it basically blocks access to these sorts of pages by redirecting them to your local host. If you go to a page that has lots of these you will see lots of 404 page not found errors all over. The good thing about it it is that it doesn't interfere with any AnitiVirus Programs you have running. There are full details here: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm It is updated frequently but does require some expertise on using windows to use it correctly though,
  6. Thanks everyone. It also reminded me of trees and their shadows on a landscape.
  7. I also got two of the DotFoto batteries for my camera about 11 months, never had a problem with them.
  8. This weeks challenge theme is: Patterns (Man made, natural or arranged) Take and upload photos from now until Monday 20th July. Voting will then be open Tuesday 21st to Friday 24th July.
  9. Thanks everyone. I'd best get the next challenge posted. I spray mounted a fern tip from a planter in my yard onto a sheet of white paper, photographed it outside, then simply inverted the bottom half to get a negative image. I got the idea whilst looking at some old film photographs.

    Yaye.

Yes I read about this on the Amatuer Photography website, great news that we haven't/won't lose Freedom of Panorama, not so good on the few European Countries that don't have it as the vote on the ammendments didn't inculding it to all EU members.
  11. To be honest I'm glad someone has tried, even if it meant failing. My first instincts were that it would be very tricky, I'm not planning on trying anytime soon but I know at this time of year they are always about. It's usually Pipistrelle bats I see. But I was pretty sure as they are common around the UK that someone must've tried photographing then before and at least found out that's it's pretty difficult.
  12. Thanks Ron that's good to know. I already know where they fly too, down the old railway line to the old mill lodge, no idea where they roost. Yes I was aware that they are protected so would only be watching them as they fly, but didn't think you could actually photograph them.
  13. There are lots of bats near where I live, there's an old mill lodge just around the corner and the bats fly down there in the evenings. I've never tried photographing them, actually I wasn't sure if it was even possible? As they only come out at dusk/night I thought that it might be pretty nigh on impossible to photograph them... Or am I wrong?
  14. Looks like 'Common Sense' has prevailed for once and the majority of MEPS voting against it. An overwhelming majority of MEPs have voted against a controversial EU plan which threatened photography of buildings in public spaces. http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/latest/photo-news/european-parliament-rejects-absurd-eu-plan-to-axe-freedom-of-panorama-55708
  15. (Shhhsh.. I can sell you a cheap upgrade to you, for your topic title which allows you to upgrade your title to Voting Now (HINT) - bargins much cheapness, please send your bank account details to make it happen...)
  16. You don't need to go far and about, 3 of the 5 challenges I've done have been taken in or around my house or at the most 400 yards. The one I have for the Through the Glass was taken in my kitchen, so that makes 4 of 6 . I work full time, abliet self-employed so I can pick and choose... but I like to get things that are close to hand so if it doesn't work the first time I can always do it again
  17. I've enjoyed these weekly challenges so far, and it's been good to have a particular focus and then trying to do it in a creative/innovative way, so I for one will look forward to a monthly challenge.
  18. I came across this recently in Blackburn, when I was asked what I was photograhing and why - in this case it was stairs and I show'd him the pictures - he must have thought I was mad. I did also mention the fact that a new iPhone 6 was more than double the price of my dslr and that there were lots of people taking photographs on their phones. However that said, a mall is usually owned by one company and units rented out, so I suppose you could say that it wasn't really public; in the same way as when you enter a National Trust/English Heritage Property.
  19. This is a link to the blog of Julia Reda, whose ammended report is being voted on: https://juliareda.eu/2015/06/fop-under-threat/ You can write to your MEPS using Writetothem website: https://www.writetothem.com/ It could affect any social media user, (at the moment this is not legislation) purely because the terms of service means you give them a non-exclusive right to use and sub-license any image you upload in any way they like. You also consent as the author that you have the IP rights to any image - which under the 'Freedom of Panorama' means any building/artworks in public places can be photographed and can be used for commercial use without the need to get consent.

    Well done pdcpic. great image.
  21. Yes, I think for your everyday person they wouldn't know that by posting images to Facebook or any other social media network would actually be considered commericial use and that by using their services you not only agree to letting them use any image you upload for any commercial purpose, you also at the same time confirm you have the right to upload. So they wouldn't be going after Facebook or whoever for copyright infringement but to the author.
  22. Sounds good, seems we have a tie-break situation with the latest Weekly Challenge...
