  1. Brilliant title and capture ... I was expecting to see the result of a car prang !
  2. Was it the file size that prohibited it ...?
  3. That's a lovely collection of images Kerry .. always interesting to see other aspects of foreign places that aren't alway of the picture postcard variety... love the art deco frontage of image 2 .. I presume you are back now .
  4. Yeah it really beggars belief when you see a photo like that doesn’t it ….an interesting capture Fogey ….
  5. Thanks Paul … it is a heavy crop but I am pretty pleased with the result considering the distance involved … they are so small too !!!
  6. Thanks Colin ... He seems to have found a favourite spot and keeps using it so I feel happy that the angle works well for me ... I hope to get more pics soon ... unfortunately a neighbour about 70 yards away has had 50 foot of dead conifers ( a hedge) removed in the past two days so he may have been frightened off with the noise of a chainsaw and a chipper at the moment ... typical eh ..
  7. Thanks Rye ... thrilled to bits with seeing it and even more so as it has taken up residence and he has been there every day now for a week ! I thought they usually inhabited areas near fresh running water ... our pond is fed by a natural spring and is probably 30 metres x 10 metres ... it has large goldfish in it but too large for the Kingfisher to catch I think ... I used my XF 100-400 mm with a 1.4 x teleconverter Mik ....didn't have time to get the tripod out so hand held ...
  8. I have never seen one of these beautiful birds in the flesh so to speak until walking down by the large pond at the bottom of my garden last week.... a sudden flash of electric blue and turquoise told me that a kingfisher was in the area . I saw it land 30 metres away and wondered if I had time to get back to the house and get my camera before it flew away .. Amazingly after slowly backing off to sneak back to the house, 60 metres away, I returned to find it was still perched on the same branch. I could barely lift the camera up slowly enough to get it in my viewfinder for fear of it taking off but my patience was rewarded ...I managed a few shots before it took off but to say it made my day is an understatement ... Then blow me down my internet connection went down due to a fault locally and didn't get fixed for 5 days so today is the first time I have been able to post it ...
  9. A lovely portrait... interesting lighting too...
  10. Congrats Mik... unusual to say the least... well spotted!
  11. Welcome to The Independent Photography Forum. Please feel free to browse around and get to know the others. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

  12. Oh Fogey ... don't say that .... We just don't hear about all you lovely great blokes out there as it doesn't make the news does it ... I think sometimes men get a lot of bad press on account of a minority of misogynists...
  13. A fantastic example of a powerful message through street art ... Great colours !
  14. I have taken many similar pics but always find them really difficult and sometimes it can feel exploitative... I don't know why it has made me feel like that sometimes as it seems a light should be shone on the plight of the homeless but more and more often, one is never sure of the truth of what we think see ... It's memorable image Mik ....
  15. It would have been my choice too Fogey ... I love the subtle light caught on the tunnel walls and the composition... that one starburst street lamp.. Well done Strav .... your urban images always impress !
  16. I think you should add the other photos, of this scene that you have taken recently, to this thread to show the difference Monkey ....or at least post a url link to cross reference them...
  17. That's correct Rye ...Robin ( BlackPearl )worked at Jessops and is now mostly on Instagram and Fuji still ventures on here when he can ... though has recently had an accident when his mobility scooter fell onto him and left him very badly bruised .. He's still fairly active with his street photography and pops in when he can ...a real old stalwart of this community Welcome back Mucker ....was that your name before on the Forum?
  18. That's a compelling yet difficult image to view ....
  19. Well ....that's impressive especially given the circumstances Monkey .. I am pretty useless at night time photography !
  20. I think I actually prefer the one without the light on in the tunnel... it makes the view at the end more of the focus and the subtle lighting reflected on the tunnel walls leads the eye in nicely without too much distraction ... just my opinion though
  21. Oooooer .... I am intrigued Sir ... Lovely light Fogey ....
  22. Ooh you can feel that frost crunching underfoot can't you ... Love the contrast that makes with the warm glow of the Autumn colours reflected in the water ... nicely observed ..
  23. Done ... deleted the duplicate post
  24. I like this .... aha...looks like there is a duplicate post so I will try and delete the other one Mik ...
