  1. Is there a half decent one available for download ? I for one cannot afford Photoshop, I couldnt make head nor tail of GIMP, and at the point where jpeg images from my D3000 look thin and washed out compared to many photos I see posted on various places..and here. The camera came with Nikons own ViewNX software, but I was told this was not that good, so I didnt install it. So, for those of you used to Nikon and their software, how good is it and should I install it ?

  3. As BP said an f1.8 Colin, If I get results as per the posted lads photograph by BP, then I will be a happy bunny.....in fact I'm rather happy now having just consumed nigh on half a bottle of Cuban rum..the wifes fault..she tricked me...hic
  4. Blimey!, I have done something right by the sounds of it, any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated
  5. I managed to win an auction for the lens I have been after for a long while I will soon be the proud owner of a prime lens in the shape of a 35 mm Nikon Nikkor AF-S DX G for my D3000. I thought about a 50mm prime but decided on the 35mm as it should work out a little better for my sensor size, or so I have read. Only drawback is that i have to wait until Thursday to get my mitts on it. It has only been used a few times and comes with the box, hoods, bag and caps so really pleased

  13. I had Gimp but really struggled to use it.... yes I am quite thick I couldnt understood even a fraction of the terminology, let alone use it. I will stick to making just small corrections in Paint.net and FastStone.

  22. I was 9 years old in 1963, and we lived in a small tied cottage In north Hertfordshire We woke up one morning to a drift that reached to the window sill....of the upstairs windows. I remember dad having to dig a tunnel from the back door up to the outhouse where the toilet was, taking the dug snow through the house to the front door, as it was only four foot deep out the front! I also remember seeing my first Helicopter that landed in the village. This had airlifted in milk and bread after three days as we were cut off. The remnants of the drifted snow hung around until early May against sheltered walls and hedgerows. I do remember the bitter cold and the shortage of everything.
  23. I much prefer an ambient temperature of about 20º for my summer warmth. I too dislike very hot days, and couldnt think of having to live in temperatures at present in Australia, but can tolerate the cold quite easily. I can always keep warm in winter, but never keep cool enough for summer. The secret of winter weather is to dress for it, nothing pleases me more than walking in the snow or rain. No one else about to get in your way! I was out walking yesterday afternoon when the snow was coming sideways across the fields. I shall be going out for a three to five mile walk in about ten minutes too...luvverly :)

Unfortunately, I spend all my time wondering what is around the corner. My current job being connected to the construction industry. Mrs Chronikon has had her job downgraded four times now, and is on just half the money she earned previously. Staring 60 in the face with an endowment mortgage that failed, does not give you any great outlook on prospects! I really do hope something can be salvaged from your predicament BP, I will wish you well, along with the rest of the board. Crap.....I have just read the BBC news webpage, So sorry BP
