Three Candid Shots...

These have been processed as in the street photography tutorial that was posted by Fooj a few days ago. The only difference being that I used Adobe Camera Raw to do the preliminary work rather than Lightroom. I opened up the shadows, closed down the highlights, twiddled the blacks & whites and then did the mono stuff in Nik Silver Efex.

To be honest, the images looked bloody awful in ACR, but all started to come together when I plonked 'em into Siver Efex.

Love the quality of these shots, getting so close to a contrasty silver paper. Although requiring a lot of work, I doubt any of the specialised software does anything that Photoshop cannot do. The trick is learning how to do it and having the time and patience to do so. However, when I see shots like these, it really makes me want to learn.

I'm sure there are alternatives to the Nik plugins. If you're a Mac user there's a very capable piece of software called Tonality - the standalone version is £13.99 at the App Store, but the version that runs as a plugin is £42.00. A 30 day trial is available.

Thanks for the positive comments, btw.

I like these, but #3 is far and away my favourite. While I do like the composition in #1, it's a bit too aggressively processed for my taste. i hope Korky will forgive my quick twiddle with it (of course, everyone will hate it)...

The slight crop on the right, means I had to get rid of the border sadly :(

Chris - There isn't anything I post on TIPF that's precious, so twiddle away - it all makes for a more interesting forum.

I wouldn't have said the processing is over aggressive, but I do like what you've done to the image - those warm tones are lovely. I prefer the crop that includes the lock and bolt, though.

Thanks :) Yes, I'd normally prefer to include a lock and bolt too, but on this occasion I thought it took the eye away from those two wonderful chatters?
