And one of the cats spewed up on the patio and I trod in it with bare feet...

glad yesterday is over!

It's really difficult to make out if it's a nail or not, it does look like a rusty bit of metal to me. Any excess mould flow would have worn away long ago unless the tyre has only done a few hundred miles.

I had a screw once go in a tyre...how does something so blunt ended pierce into a tyre? Brian has the car at work at the moment, I shall get him to check it out when he comes home.

If it's a bit of metal it's possible but unlikely that it hasn't gone right through the tyre, best not to pull it out, just drive to your local tyre supplier/garage and let them do it. That way you won't have to change the wheel if the object has gone right through and the tyre deflates. A couple of times I've had something in my tyre and the chap at the garage has pulled it out and I've been lucky and the tyre didn't deflate, mind you I've had far more occasions when it did and needed repairing. That object looks extremely close to the wall of the tyre to me, if the wall of a tyre is punctured the tyre can't usually be repaired, fingers crossed it will repair OK.
