seeing as the first one went down so well I thought I would try another one today, slightly different angle and not sure if I like this one as much as the first but I thought I would share it and see what you all think

i think it depends what you want people to view. My intitial reaction to this is that my eye is drawn to the textures of the leather chair rather than the dog in this particular picture, whereas the other picture my eye was drawn to the dog first and then the texture of the chair

having said all that i do still really like this  :)

thank you, having compliments all the time is great don't get me wrong, but I really appreciate honesty because it helps me learn and progress. Yes the dog should be the focal point so I need to go back to this and see how I can improve it :) thank you

Interesting. I have my normal display brightness turned quite low, and your first shot looks better. When I turn the brightness up full, the second looks better. I really think this is one of those rare cases where the judgement depends on display setting.

Now I really like the first one which I think is superb. Yes, you do see the chair first with its lovely worn leather, and then you discover the dog and the cushion. A total package IMHO.

Rob.

if you want the image to be about the dog then the second image is better. For personal taste i agree with Rob i like the first picture better because i like the light falling on the chair and the cushion and then discovering the dog afterwards, almost as an afterthought, quietly snoozing :)
