..... The Flight of the Bumblebee! The rain eased off and the sun came out for an hour at lunchtime, so I stuck a set of extension tubes on the 18-105 and went out to where I spotted a Bumblebee. I used iso400, 1/200 sec, f11, manual flash with diffuser set to 1/2 power. I tried chasing the bees around but decided to try Fuji's ploy of concentrating on one flower and waiting for the buzz to arrive. The pics are slightly soft focus in places, but I'm more than happy at my first attempt. All the pics are crops.

These are the only keepers I got, but I can tell you that my shutter count increased considerably today!   :yes

YIKES!

I've given away my secrets .............

Seriously Martin........WELL DONE YOU!

I think that the old advice, re manual focus only for macro shooting is old hat now.......Auto focus on most current cameras is lightning fast and extremely accurate.......the secret is to press that shutter. .....IMMEDIATELY .......the confirmation lights up, because in a split second you have almost certainly moved.

The other secret is to make a serious attempt at pre-empting what your subject is going to do, spend time quietly observing behaviours, with insects they can be pretty repetitive.

I did start out using auto focus by mistake but with little success. I switched to manual focus and pre-judged the distance.
