Never been able to see big ben, it is the bell, the clock is the "great Westminster Clock" not Big Ben :)

BIG BEN...........is that guy who sells Hot-Dogs outside St Pancreas Station.

"Big Ben" is what the tourists usually  call the clock tower which, if it is given a name, is usually known as St Stephen's Tower (but that in fact is a smaller tower elsewhere in the building) and is correctly called The Elizabeth Tower.

It's just one of those things. 'Big Ben' is what people call the clock tower (or rather, the clock part of it), so Big Ben it is. It's like The Flying Scotsman - originally that was a train service, but the particular loco came to be called it and the name stuck.
