New Canon Lens

Recommended Posts

I treated myself today to a 2nd hand Canon 75-300 f4-5.6 III for a tidy sum of £100.  I'v been fighting with the Sigma 70-300 for a few weeks, especially fast moving things like birds, bikes and cars, the difference is out of this world, 10x quieter, and the focus is twice as fast, still a bit of hunting, but not much.

this first one of a starling is about 80 feet away and maybe 25 feet up, focused between the trees in the foreground.

and a 50% crop

a little blue fringing (is that a word?)  it was hand held...

and one of our Fluffy this one did impress me.

this last one I thought was a RAT... just heard a noise in the brambles, turned out to be a Blackbird I presume hunting for bugs, the Sigma simply would not focus through so much foreground.

I am VERY impressed.....

I have a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, it's quite good for the price... just a tad soft at full zoom. I don't think that's unusual for a lens in it's price range. I have been trying to make up my mind whether to treat myself to a new lens, I'd like a new walkabout lens, something wide enough for landscapes and give a reasonable zoom as well. I just hate continually changing lenses when I'm out and about. I've been considering a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM, I have a Canon EF 28-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM but that's not wide enough sometimes so I might stick it on eBay should I decide to buy the 18-135mm.
