Vulcan XM603, and some gigantic hangars

Took a bit of a road trip last week, to see Vulcan XM603 at the Avro Heritage Museum in Woodford, with some reenactors (arranged by Timeline Events), and then on the way back I stopped in Cardington to see the airship hangars. They're absolutely enormous! Apparently they're the biggest rooms in Europe.

The plane shots were with my X-T1, and the Fuji 16-80 lens (it was nice to have a weatherproof setup, it was a very rainy night!), and the hangars are with my X-T30 and the Viltrox 13mm F/1.4.

Wow ...Love that first  pic Kerry ... what an iconic aircraft!  I saw  one flying over the Shropshire hills and managed to catch it on camera for about a minute whilst out walking  a few years ago . Awesome sight .

What a size those hangars are too ... 😮 the car adds  great perspective in that final image .

Thanks Polly! I couldn't get over the size of the hangars. I sent a phone pic to my mum and she sent back "How far up the Hangar 1 sign do you come, so I can get an idea of scale?". When I told her I didn't even reach the sign she was amazed! :)

Growing up not far from RAF Waddington in the late 50' and 60's the sound of the Avro Vulcans running their engines at night was the sound track of my youth. We also knew if we heard more than 4 go out at once there may be a chance we wouldn't see them return. Thankfully the Cold War years never came to that.

Wonderful pictures of an iconic aircraft designed by Sir Roy Chadwick ( who also design the Avro Lancaster) which has so much history behind it.

Thank You for showing them.
