After some research, it may be  (Chrionomidae) which basically means, it's a midge.

You may have seen the head-on portrait shot already, but here is a side on view of this tiny midge, albeit at an awkward angle (cos it wouldn't move to a non-awkward angle!)...

Great shot Paul! I've been impressed by your macro work since you joined the forum; I'm now in awe after getting into macro myself. You've got the nearest point of the midge in focus (legs & feet) and the body too, you have great technique.

Thank you Martyn. I've been into macro for a long time - you think by now I would have gotten the best lens (65) but at £850  I always baulk at the price - even though I know it could take my shots to a fantastic new level. It could though make me look bad ba BAD as well, because it's possibly the hardest lens to master.

It's amazing how much detail there is.

Nice one,Paul. :)

Indeed Tina - and I always look for that something else - something different if I can. Maybe that's what gets folks looking at them.

It actually looks a lot nicer in the close up.

They are annoying little creatures when they fly around you though. Lol

Luckily, this was static - and being black and nocturnal - I'd not see it fly at me, lol..  :)

It looks like a pet belonging to Darth Vader.

Great macro study.

FUJI

Thanks Fuji - did you feel the force...?
