Bee or not a Bee

Turns out it's not a bee. I thought it was a Honey Bee until I looked it up on the interweb. It doesn't have big bee antenna, it doesn't have a slender waist, it only has one pair of wings, it doesn't have a sting; that would make it a Drone Fly which is a mimic of a bee. Who'da thunk it 12 months ago that I would be taking an active interest in creepy crawlies?   

 

 

I remembered what Paul said about "wrong angle to identify" in my previous post, so I grabbed this shot quickly. Forgot to put the flash diffuser on again!

Good captures Martyn. Regarding ID... it could be one of the Eristalis species which are difficult to identify, possibly Eristalis pratorum. I might be completely wrong.

Seems to be easy to get addicted to it Martyn No. 1 is really good

Eristalis pratorum maybe, or pertinax, the female of the species, certainly. Pratorum the black bee hover is more scarce.
