Just checking around the wood pile today and spotted a potential subject, another Praying Mantis:

Very well camouflaged in the background. Where did he go then?:

Then I caught him again and he said 'Get me now, 'cos then I'm off!':

I finished my garden session with another 'good deed' - rescued this baby bee from our rain gauge:

This may be our 'last hurrah' for this season. The winds turn to the South this evening and our temperatures cool down to low 20's. The insect life will soon be harder to find. That's why I'm having fun now :D

Love the mantis pictures, number two really shows the camouflage well, and the detail in the others is excellent.

That bee looks quite cute, especailly with the water drop on his back. I assume that's your hand he's on so hopefully he isn't a stinger, but maybe he'd just be grateful for the escape.

Thank you all :D

Bugs, I think the bee may have been a baby Blue Banded - we haven't seen any around yet. He didn't seem inclined to sting at all, so yes, he was probably grateful.

Nanny the Mantis is about 3 inches in length, we've lost him now. He'll be somewhere in the woodpile!!
