Thanks Leon, she was sunbathing on the garden bench.

 

For your info, this was with all 3 of my extension tubes and therefor at maximum magnification and closest possible focus, and then cropped a little from the top left to balance out on the thirds.

(It may actually be a 7-spt I'm now told, so a bit unsure of the true ID!)

 

 

The lens was my Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens, with 3 extension tubes on. The end of the lens was about 4 inches or so away from the ladybird itself I'd say.

Is this just lit by the sun Paul, or is there a flash involved?

 

Sunlight only Martyn. It was quite strong hence the brighter spot at the near front edge of the elytra and the rear of the head.

Cracking shots Paul, I have the same lens as you... it's brilliant IMO. I've used my 12mm & 20mm Kenko extensions tubes with the lens but only one at a time, I've never tried stacking all three to give 68mm. The DOF must be tiny, I like a challenge so I'll try that when the bug time get's going.
