I truly think I would give my right arm to see these birds...stunning and a must for the large view..

Annie... you don't have to go to Wales to see them, although to see them close it is best to go to one of the Welsh feeding stations and the best one is Gigrin Farm. When I was running my courier business I used to travel on the M40 a lot and it was often possible to see dozens hovering over the motorway looking for road kill, mostly around the cutting near Stokenchurch. There is quite a population of them in the Chilterns between Oxford and High Wycombe, it might be worth investigating using Google.

lovely capture, I visited Gigrin farm once, it is a very tiring experience with a sigma 150 - 500 and a few hundred red kites to choose from

I know what you mean, the Red Kites are extremely fast movers... before now I've come away with 500 shots or more and kept about 10... I have to make do with my 70-300mm lens, apart from the expence I can't hump around anything larger as most of my photography is done on walks of 5-10 miles. I know one doesn't have to walk far at Gigrin Farm, but even there I always get there early and walk the nature trail.
