I once saw one of these Grebes swimming backwards - there was a bow wave at his bum and I remember thinking that it was a good idea to have good sphincter muscle, otherwise he would fill up and sink.

The Grebe was looking over it's shoulder to see where it was going.... sort of ...'left a bit,'........'right a bit', and I was thinking what a cocky little show off he was.......
Until I saw a fisherman looking very sheepish as he reeled this bird in.

Then it dawned on me it wasn't saying 'left a bit',.... 'right a bit',....... rather, 'what the F*?&%'......

anthropomorphism - it'll get you every time.

Oh ...  So you're a fisherman .... I imagine you've really enjoyed Paul Whitehouse and Bob  Mortimer  3  series of Gone Fishing then ... I' ve absolutely loved them.... it seems a really genuine  friendship has developed even though Bob  drives Paul potty  sometimes ! nHe caght a huge Sea bass on one programme and was  like a kid at Xmas !

I used to go specimen Carp fishing with my wife for many years and have been all over the country seeking the 'catch of a lifetime'.

I say used because I can no longer cart all that equipment around, let alone hang on to a specimen carp for forty or so minutes trying to land it.   While I never caught a 30-40lb specimen, I had a lot of success at around 18-25lb range.

Yes, I now watch fishermen's stories, rather than telling them.

This is me with a tiddler Mirror Carp, taken from the Shearwater lake on the Longleat estate, in Somerset.
