Time for a song, so here's two for the price of one with the late, great John Martyn.

The first is from 1973 when he was young and pretty and the second is from around (I'm guessing) 2007 when he was wheelchair-bound and his illness and his somewhat chaotic lifestyle had got the better of him. John died in January 2009.

Just like Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen matured like cask whisky, I think I prefer the older cantankerous John Martyn - his voice has a deep rich timbre that suits his songs perfectly.

This is what I listen to

Just right for a Sunday morning relax with the papers...

You culture vulture, you (he said, hastily concealing the Pärt tracks in his own iTunes, and trying to conceal his nods of agreement .. no, he and Tavener and (if the occasion is right) Reich are just perfect 'getting on with things' music :) )
