The Midland in Colour

I waited and waited for the reflection of the sunset in the glass at the back of the Midland Hotel on the promenade, but it just never happened.

But I did manage to capture the diners in the dining room after dark

and this amazing light fitting in the bar area

Good set, Martyn.

You did catch some of the red sky reflection in the top one, and I especially like the bottom one, with the lone barman and ornaments on the window still.

Hee hee, the ornaments you see on the window sill are the tables and chairs on the terrace outside!

So what's that in the penthouse windows of the first shot - Scotch mist?? Great shots, by the way.

My vision for the shot was to see the building look like it was on fire, I'll try again another day!

Hey! Martyn, you are getting good at this photography lark........it doesn't seem too long ago that you were posting your first tentative shots with your new camera ;-)

Well done............your " Photographer's Eye" is developing nicely.

Thanks Fuji! I don't watch much tv, but when I do I find myself analyzing the shots. Long lens or short lens, where is the light source? What compositional tools have they used, thirds, leading lines, diagonals, repeated patterns, colours etc. I find it particularly interesting when for example there is a landscape with mountains in focus in the distance, then the focus puller brings it in to focus on a flower in the foreground and throws the background out of focus. In still photography you can't use real time to do this, you have to use the composition to guide the viewers eyes around the picture.

And on top of all this I have my good friends on TIPF to thanks for their guidance and encouragement! :yes

That is so deceiving!  I thought they were some sort of rustic ornaments. I blame the cataracts :yes

It's a wonder that I get any useable shots, isn't it?

Nanny, you have just reminded me of a bedtime story I used to read to my kids about a young mole, he used to stick his head up out of his hole to see the beautiful fairytale castle in the distance. One day he decided he wanted to visit the castle, so he put on his best "looking glasses" and set out to the castle. When he got there all he could see was a big rubbish dump. He comes home very disappointed, but his mum tells him he did see a fairytale castle in the distance, he just hasn't found it yet; hold on to your dreams!
