A MUST WATCH.....FOR CLICKER.... and anyone else using vintage lenses

Recommended Posts

Thanks Fooj ... it's been around  for a while this particular lecture and I first watched it a couple of years ago when I started researching  vintage glass for my Fuji camera ..Beepy gave me a lot of practical advice and at the time I recall you were buying a lens or two from ebay so it whetted my appetite when I saw some of the results posted  by you both.  I think they especially appeal to people who like the fact that they aren't  clinically perfect like a lot of ultra modern digital  lenses  and I particularly like the  effects at certain distances with  a wide open lens and the fact that it's always manual focus  that  is necessary ... I think it  made me a better photographer when  I resisted  using autofocus a lot more ... I learned a lot  during the two years that a few of us on here did the one a day every day(OADED) Challenge   on the forum and I used to ensure there were days when  I only used the camera in Manual mode .. .

The Jupiter 8 that arrived last week is a 1954 Sonnar  copy ,which was a lens designed   for  Zeiss around 1930, that were available to the Russian KMZ Company  as part of the War Reparations. In fact  here is a link  that  others may find interesting regarding the Jupiter 8 lens.

There's an article on using vintage lenses on35mmc today.

Not the technical side, but more why the author uses them.

P.S. I have two Jupiter-8s one in each mount, on the cameras that they were made for the Kiev-4 and the Zorki-4.
