Nice to still find some insects - particularly the Mesembrina meridiana in #2 and #3 which you don't see very often.

There was one when I was at Brockholes recently but I couldn't get close enough to it.

Isn't there an old country saying.......that Blackberries in October ( or is it the Autumn?) belong to the devil?

ANNIE???

FUJI

Close.

According to legend, the devil was kicked out of Heaven on October 11th (I love how the legend can be so precise), and he landed on a bramble bush (ouch!).

Now every October 11 he spits on the blackberries (or worse) and that is supposed to make them either inedible or unfit for human consumption.

(I love how the legend can be so precise),

It was the arch angel micheal who did the booting of old nick out of heaven

Hence as September 29th is Michaelmas day no berries should be eaten after that date as old nick has given them a good going over

11th of October is Michaelmas day in the old calender

So really if you are a beleiver of legends its 29th of September blackberring should cease
