Spotted a spider hard at work on the saw bench where I cut firewood. The camera was still set up from last nights shoot, so I took about a dozen shots. More than half were in focus, so it seems I'm getting used to the 4" focus point in front of the reversed lens. It also seems I'm getting closer to my subject and I'm amazed by the patterns and colours in these little creatures.

I think this is a garden spider

Its a female Orb spider, yes (garden spider). Fantastic spiders, which can vary in colour too. I have one which is actually RED somewhere!

Paul.

Is that because she isn't wearing boxing gloves?

I'm amazed by the markings, she has an angel on her back. The colours are fantastic too; in Lightroom I was playing with saturation in the HSL module. There are reds, blues, purples, yellows. Photography is a real eye opener! :detective:

Martyn......you are definitely going down with a dose of the .....Macro Bug........it is practically incurabke once it get a hold,......it got me a few years ago and I still can't shake it off.

Seriously though....these are particularly good shots, the hairs on the spider's legs really stand out........I can't help thinking that the bluey tinge might be lens Abberation ???.....but I'm no expert.

My other suggestion is to diffuse your flash, in the field when using my little LX5 compact for macro I use the corner of my hanky draped over the in- camera flash.....you could also play with the white balance settings.....on a dead insect fir instance....one that won't run away or take off.
