Ashby Statutes

Ashby Statutes, a funfair, is held every September. Instituted by Royal Statute, it was originally a hiring fair when domestic servants and farmworkers would be hired for the year. Market Street, the main road through the town (the former A50 trunk road), is closed for nearly a week and the traffic is diverted along the narrower road, South Street. Locals call this event 'The Statutes' which many pronounce as "stachets".

I went along to take a few stock pictures, nothing fancy, just a record of the fair. Everything goes round at a fun fair, the Waltzers, the big wheel the crowds of course (although most of them went home just after eight o'clock when there was a few minutes light drizzle). Favourite photo from the night? These ducks, yes, even they go round.

Top tip for photographing funfairs at night;
Take a tripod and make sure no one trips over it!
