If anyone is ever in Pembrokeshire during the period late May to late July then I recommend a trip the the island of Skomer, this is my second visit, I also went in June 2006. You don't even need a long lens as the Puffins hardly take any notice of you and just get on with their business.

I'm not sure if this will be of any interest to you... but here goes. My day trip to Skomer started and finished at Martins Haven, there are up to five boats per day, the maximum number of people allowed on the island each day is 250. I went over last Friday, I arrived at Martins Haven at about 10am hoping to catch the second boat of the day at 10.30am. I was told that the only places left were on the last boat at 12 noon and there were only 20 places left... so I only just managed to get to Skomer. Apparently all tickets were sold by 9.30am on Thursday. I caught the boat back to Martins Haven at 5pm.

I tracked the boat crossing and my walk with my GPS and I've marked the best place to see the Puffins.
